20/11/06 LycoRed Limited has launched a line of advanced oily blends featuring proprietary fatty acid premixes designed for infant formulae. The oily blends will use a custom made composition of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs) and other oily soluble ingredients. These products line will be manufactured at LycoRed’s new specialized lipid formulation facility at their UK plant.
“Infant formula is an important market for us,” explains Peter Gallagher, Managing Director at LycoRed Limited. “Our goal is to penetrate this market with hot, new lipids that will allow manufacturers to create healthy and cutting-edge products. Investment in our premix facilities is the cornerstone of our strategy.”
Beyond infant formulas, the facility is equipped to manufacture mixtures of plant, algae and marine lipids with other active ingredients. These mixtures range from simple oil-based vitamin concentrates for use in mainstream food production to more complex premixes of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids which are proprietary to customers in the infant formula industry.
“Lycored is providing formulation expertise specifically focused on high-value functional lipids,” explains Gallagher. “We can tailor-make formulations and provide solutions for customers who have difficulty in either handling highly sensitive lipids or need a specific premix manufactured in a highly controlled environment where cost, stability and quality are of prime importance.” The plant has the flexibility to produce in-house both small scale pilot batches and full scale commercial batches ¾ a capability which saves customers time and money by greatly facilitating the development of custom formulations. The new facility can also manufacture formulations which provide the perfect balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids demanded by the dietary supplement market.
LycoRed’s new facility meets the highest standards and was designed in close cooperation with LycoRed’s customers. “We showed our clients the plans for the new plant and asked them to advise us as to what processing technologies would best serve their future product development,” added Gallagher.
