Laurelwood Brewing Releases Golden Weapons
10 Apr 2015
10 Apr 2015 --- Laurelwood Brewing Co. is breaking new ground again with its first sour beer. Laurelwood is releasing an American-style Sour Ale, dubbed “Golden Weapons,” on Tuesday, April 14, coinciding with the kickoff of the 2015 Craft Brewers Conference (CBC).
Not only is this beer a first, but it’s also a last – Golden Weapons was one of the final projects of former Laurelwood Brewmaster, Vasilios Gletsos, who returned to Vermont to work for Hill Farmstead Brewery in Fall 2014.
“Vasili valued sour beers as an important aspect of Laurelwood’s future,” explains current Laurelwood Brewmaster, Shane Watterson, who worked alongside Gletsos for the past few years. “Adding sours to our lineup not only expands our range and knowledge, but also provides an outlet for future brewers to experiment and create beers that excite us, as well as our fans.”
Golden Weapons’ debut comes after several months of aging in wine barrels followed by additional months of conditioning in bottles.
Watterson says Golden Weapons signifies the start of Laurelwood’s sour beer program; “It’s only the beginning of many more small-batch sour releases we have planned.”
Laurelwood Brewing Co. welcomes CBC attendees, as well as the public, to its 5115 NE Sandy Boulevard, Portland location to be apart of history in the making and purchase Golden Weapons during its Tuesday release. However, the brewery emphasizes that this is a small batch release, with a limited number of 25.4 ounce bottles available for purchase.
