High End Premium California Wines Now in New Eco-Packages that Replace Traditional Glass Bottles
From Goat skin bags, to clay pots to glass bottles, wine revolutions only come around every 1000 years or so. Today new eco-packages are beginning to replace glass bottles on store shelves.
26 Nov 2010 --- According to FOURGREEN Wine Company, the major pollution in the wine industry comes from the manufacture of glass bottles. New eco-packaging has begun to replace traditional glass bottles on United States store shelves. The new packages stay fresh for 6-8 weeks after opening, reduce trash going into local garbage dumps by 80% and cuts toxic gas emissions by 50% compared to traditional bottles.
Up until now, the new packaging has been reserved for cheaper wines. But for the first time, high end premium California wines are now being marketed by FOURGREEN Wine Company in a 3L tube under the brand name “FOUR”. Each tube holds the equivalent of 4 regular 750 ml bottles.
Larry Leigon, Partner in FOURGREEN Wine Company, said:
“The owner of world famous Chateau Cheval Blanc in St. Emilion, France was interviewed for an AP wire story on FOUR winetube. He said ‘I would never put Cheval Blanc in a bag.’ God I hope not. Neither would I. But if you did put Cheval Blanc or Lafite or Romanee Conti in a bag, it would still be Cheval Blanc or Lafite or Romanee Conti. The wine doesn’t change. See the thing is, the wine doesn’t know it was in a bag.”
