Glass Recycling for Christmas in Spain
According to data collected by Ecovidrio, the 12% increase of glass waste collecting in 2006 has not been circumstantial but a sustained trend, thanks to the improvement of glass recycling management and consumer’s awareness.
09/01/08 During last Christmas, Spanish people recycled more than seven glass bottles per person. In total, 106,062,174 Kg of glass bottles were collected from recycling containers in Spain between December 2006 and January 2007.
The pre-Christmas period, holidays and some days after Christmas are days of high consumption of glass bottled products. Hence, it is a good period to support recycling of glass waste and to contribute to an enhancement of environmental respect.
According to data collected by Ecovidrio, the 12% increase of glass waste collecting in 2006 has not been circumstantial but a sustained trend, thanks to the improvement of glass recycling management and consumer’s awareness. Thus, 576,967,644 Kg of glass waste were collected in 2006 from street containers. Furthermore, 236,163 tonnes of glass waste were collected from other places such as packaging and separation plants, recycling a final amount of 840,131 tonnes of glass in 2006.
