15/05/2006, Barcelona, Spain - EDV Packaging and the Mini Marías' great success story. EDV Packaging has developed a new rigid barrier cup for United Biscuits Southern Europe that complements the existing range of snacks and biscuits of the brand Fontaneda.
The trend towards convenience and ease of use becomes more and more evident in consumers' habits as food manufacturers must adapt their products to consumers changing lifestyles and needs. United Biscuits Southern Europe are a leading food manufacturer and when they were looking to address a new packaging concept chose EDV Packaging to create a new cup for the Mini Marías. New pack formats were launched into the market during the first quarter of 2006. The results have been spectacular in terms of added sales and the customer has readily accepted the new product and pack format. Mini Marías are now available in most major retailers.
A PLUS TO THE MINI RANGE

EDV Packaging coextrudes and thermoforms the PP/EVOH/PP white structure in the production plant located in Barcelona, Spain. The material chosen offers maximum guarantees to properties such as long preservation of the packed product, as well as barrier to moisture and oxygen enough to preserve the estability and taste of the biscuits up to 12 months, in optimal storing conditions. The product is protected against light and UV rays thanks to the opacity of the base material.
The pack has a capacity of 110g. and its design is tapered towards the bottom of the pack. Its overall shape is smooth to allow a heat shrink printed sleeve to be applied. Its ergonomical shape joins perfectly the palm of consumer's hand and the cup easily finds its place in the car's cup holder. The low weight of the cup makes it easy to carry in the bag and its technical characteristics make it 100% recyclable and respectful with the environment.
The cup is eye-catching from any side of the supermarket shelves and is heat sealed with a metalissed laminate to keep the product fresh until consumed. The pack presentation is completed with a rigid injected-moulded overcap -supplied by Procap Llagostera- that guarantees the preservation of biscuit's quality once opened. The final presentation of the cup includes a high quality OPS sleeve -supplied by Sleever Internationalrotogravure printed.
