Danisco Introduces Organic Fair Trade Certified Vanilla

08/09/06 Danisco, the global leader in sustainable and organic Vanilla has introduced a full line of Fair Trade Certified Vanilla products.  This launch is in conjunction with TransFair USA, the only independent, third-party certifier of Fair Trade Certified products in the United States.

“This is a big step forward in sustainable product and agriculture for companies that wish to maintain a socially responsible outlook,” says Dan Berlin, Global Business Manager, Vanilla at Danisco.

Fair Trade ensures that farmers in the developing world receive a fair price for their crops and use sustainable farming practices. This guarantees environmental stewardship while protecting small-scale farmers from the volatile price fluctuations that have forced many out of business.  It also ensures a consistent supply of ingredients to customers.

“We are delighted to partner with Danisco to bring Fair Trade Certified Vanilla to U.S. consumers,” says TransFair USA founder and CEO Paul Rice.  “Supporting sustainable small-scale Vanilla farming, while maintaining Danisco’s high-quality standards, is a true victory for Fair Trade.”

Danisco is able to offer Fair Trade Certified conventional and organic Vanilla while still providing its customers with a competitive price. Companies need a reliable source of Fair Trade organic Vanilla that can supply the right quality and quantity for expanding product lines and increased sales.

“Danisco is a technology driven company, committed to sustainability and fair trade. By directly transferring our knowledge to the farmers and processors in developing countries, we improve the value and consistency of their production in the world market. This direct and personal involvement allows us to provide the highest quality and flexibility to our customers,” says Dr. Krishna Bala, Technical Director, Vanilla at Danisco.

Over the past five years, Danisco has worked directly with the growers and processors in several Vanilla growing regions in the world on sustainable Vanilla production.  Danisco extracts Vanilla mainly in the United States, with additional facilities in the United Kingdom and France.
