Coca-Cola Italy Selects Thumb’Up for New Sports Drink
For Powerade Pro the capping is much easier with Thumb’Up sports caps as the filling is done at a co-packer of Coca-Cola, Spumador in Italy, running on an aseptic cold filling (ACF) line equipped with spray decontamination using paracetic acid.
29/11/2007 Coca-Cola Italy has selected Bericap’s Thumb’Up 38mm, 3-start, developed and made in France (Vittel) for its new Powerade Pro isotonic sports drink, a low-calorie variant of its Powerade brand, specifically launched for Italy, in a 750 ml squeeze bottle.
Bericap already supplies push-pull sports closures for the standard Powerade drink on aseptic lines in the UK and Italy. For those lines, an expensive and delicate decontamination process is used: first packing in special bags (sensitive to any forms of perforation or weak seals), irradiated by gamma rays in centres located between the Bericap and Coca-Cola factories, then transferred to the filling lines via lockers, in which the bags are spray decontaminated before closures are poured into the hoppers of the cappers.
For Powerade Pro the capping is much easier with Thumb’Up sports caps as the filling is done at a co-packer of Coca-Cola, Spumador in Italy, running on an aseptic cold filling (ACF) line equipped with spray decontamination using paracetic acid. This facilitates the supply of Bericap closures in cost-efficient standard packs.
