CIAA Launches Industry Guidelines on Flavourings
This latest online publication provides food and drink manufacturers and other key stakeholders with a common understanding of the major issues to be taken into account in the use and labelling of flavourings in food and drink products.
3/10/2011 --- The CIAA (Confederation of the food and drink industries of the EU) launched its ‘Industry Guidelines on “Regulation (EC) No. 1334/2008 on flavourings and certain food ingredients with flavouring properties for use in and on foods”.
This latest online publication provides food and drink manufacturers and other key stakeholders with a common understanding of the major issues to be taken into account in the use and labelling of flavourings in food and drink products.
Divided into seven user-friendly chapters and annexes, the brochure sets out the text from the Regulation and provides the interpretations and common understanding of food manufacturers vis-à-vis new EU rules, important parts of which took effect from 20 January 2011. The on-line tool comes complete with a set of illustrative examples to facilitate a greater comprehension of the new rules, particularly in respect of labelling.
In addition to key definitions and at-a-glance tables indicating the scope and timescale for the implementation of the latest rules, the Guidelines describe the labelling of flavourings in the list of ingredients of flavoured food and drinks and explain the changes compared to the previous legislation, Directive 88/388/EEC. The Regulation marks a fundamental change in flavourings legislation since it was first harmonised in 1988.
