Cargill Opens New Crushing Plant in China
With this enhanced capacity, Cargill says it will better serve our customers in the Yangtze River Basin and across China by continuously providing high quality feed proteins and related products such as soy oils.
20/06/06 Cargill has opened a new 5,000-ton per day crushing facility in Nantong, Jiangsu province, China. With around 60 million US dollars capital investment, this new plant will be the largest investment of Cargill in oilseed crushing industry in China.
Construction of the plant took fifteen months. It will be Cargill’s largest crushing facility in China and eventually will be one of Cargill’s largest crushing facilities worldwide. With this enhanced capacity, Cargill says it will better serve our customers in the Yangtze River Basin and across China by continuously providing high quality feed proteins and related products such as soy oils. The Nantong plant will also be used to export products to neighboring countries.
“This is good news for our customers,” said Robert Aspell, the president of Cargill Grain and Oilseed Supply Chain, China & Korea. “Added to our two existing crushing facilities in Dongguan, this new capacity will significantly strengthen our ability to reliably meet growing market demand well into the future. Lets not forget that China is by far the fastest growing market in the world and investments in this sector are needed to sustain the growth of our customers. One of our key objectives is also to serve our feed and vegoil customers by processing in China. With China’s entry in the World Trade Organization (WTO), China is now exposed to imports of proteins and more vegoil and thus building world-class competitive plants is the only answer to keeping the processing activity in China itself, providing jobs in important regions and better service to our customers.”
“Beyond production,” Aspell added, “we also provide supply chain solutions to help our customers to manage, protect and grow their businesses. Being a global leader in oilseed processing and refining, our global risk management expertise and leading technological skills enable us to offer our customers the best services through out the entire supply chain.”
Norwell Coquillard, president of Cargill Greater China said: “Cargill is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and a secure food supply for China. Nowadays, our total investments in China have exceeded 500 million US dollars. This new facility marks a very significant step in Cargill’s strategy of investing in agricultural product processing in China.”
