Cargill Expands Specialty Polyol Production Facilities
US, German and Italian manufacturing capacities extended.
“We’ve invested over $100 million in our polyol expansion projects around the world during the past year,” said R. Creager Simpson, president of Cargill Food & Pharma Specialties, North America. “We’ve significantly expanded our global presence in specialty polyols, and we are well-positioned to meet future demand growth in the food and pharmaceutical industries,” he said.
Specialty polyols are used in a wide range of food and pharmaceutical applications such as confectionery, fruit processing, beverages, bakery, dairy and ice cream, convenience foods and tableting. Last year, the company introduced Eridex erythritol, an all-natural/non-caloric (0.2 Kcal/g) bulk sweetener that is ideal for reduced calorie and low glycemic load products. Erythritol is approved for food use in the United States, Japan and 15 other countries. Recently, Canada, the Netherlands and Belgium were added to the list of countries granting food approval.
