Aunt Millie's introduces three USDA certified organic hearth breads
The move makes Aunt Millie's one of the only commercial DSD bakeries in the United States baking fully organic breads.
18/04/06 Aunt Millie's has introduce three certified organic breads to its Hearth line. Each of these breads will be a whole grain product and a good source of fiber.
- Aunt Millie's Hearth Organic 100% Whole Wheat Bread, 28 oz.
- Aunt Millie's Hearth Organic Flax Seed Bread, 28 oz.
- Aunt Millie's Hearth Organic Indian Whole Grain Bread, 28 oz.
With this move, Aunt Millie's will be one of the only commercial DSD bakeries in the United States baking fully organic breads.
Organic bread is, in simplified terms, bread baked with organic ingredients. At least 95% of the finished weight of the bread (minus water and salt) must be composed of these organic ingredients.
These organic ingredients are crops grown without the use of most conventional pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. These crops cannot be bioengineered or subjected to ionizing radiation. Upon inspection of the grower's processes by a certifying agency, the crops can then be labeled organic. These certified organic crops then become the ingredients used in the organic bread.
The remaining 5% or less of the ingredients must appear on an approved list of naturally occurring ingredients established by the National Organic Program. These ingredients must also be non-GMO, not irradiated, nor fertilized with inappropriate sources (sewage sludge).
The ingredients in Aunt Millie's Hearth Organic Breads are USDA certified to meet these standards.
Aunt Millie's Hearth Organic Breads were certified organic by QAI, Quality Assurance International, so they qualify to bear the USDA's organic seal.
With the creation of the National Organic Program in 2002, the USDA has a separate arm to control the growing, transport, manufacture and packaging of organic foods. QAI is an independent certification company. The QAI Certification Program is designed to certify every step of the organic chain.
