Aug 29 2011 --- During food processing, metal food containers, bottle caps and processing equipment are constantly under attack from corrosion and deposits. A new product from Ashland Water Technologies, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., provides the European food packaging industry with a technology to eliminate these destructive elements.
Protecsol FBX corrosion inhibitors and deposit dispersants provide an exterior barrier that shields metal food packaging from corrosion and also eliminates deposits that can build up on processing equipment. “The Protecsol FBX family of products can be used in heat treatment systems, batch or continuous sterilization equipment, and tunnel pasteurizers used in food, beverage and dairy applications,” said Hans Graumans, global marketing manager, food and beverage, Ashland Water Technologies.
“Food processors are keenly aware of consumer perceptions and how food packaging can affect purchases,” added Graumans. “Research has shown that Protectsol FBX products not only improve the overall appearance of food packaging, but can also provide incremental process improvements by removing scale and reducing bio fouling to help companies reduce water usage, improve energy savings and improve environmental performance."
Protectsol FBX products have been registered by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) under the organization’s G5 category. The NSF Nonfood Compounds Registration Program is a continuation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture product approval and listing program, which is based on meeting regulatory requirements including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Code of Federal Regulations for appropriate use.
