Alpha C has been available for six months, although Alexir would not disclose the names of retail customers.
Melvyn Chimes, business service director at the Composting Association, praised Alexir for taking steps to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
"By making more packaging compostable, they can play a constructive role in helping this country meet its obligations under the EU's Landfill Directive," he said.
