Absolut and Tabasco unite for spicy vodka as consumers crave heat
Key takeaways
- Absolut Tabasco launches in February 2026 across 50+ markets as spicy vodka sales are forecast to grow 27% by 2029.
- Natural pepper essence from aged Tabasco mash delivers building heat with no added sugar.
- Collaboration unites two 150-year heritage brands amid rising demand for multi-sensory flavor experiences.

Absolut Vodka and Tabasco are launching a co-branded spicy vodka, combining the Swedish distiller’s premium spirit with a natural essence derived from the fermented, aged red pepper mash used in Tabasco sauce.
Absolut Tabasco will roll out from February 2026 across more than 50 markets, including the US and UK, as demand for heat in the spirits category continues to climb. Sales of spicy vodka are forecast to increase 27% by 2029, according to the companies.
The launch aligns with broader flavor trends identified by Innova Market Insights, which named “Sensorial Explorations” as its top global flavor trend for 2026. The market researcher found that textures, aromas, and visual appeal are increasingly driving indulgence and perceived value, with 26% of Gen Z consumers favoring visually striking and surprising flavor combinations.

“In 2026, flavor is about more than taste — consumers are embracing texture, aroma, and visual appeal, transforming eating into an immersive, multi-sensory experience,” Lu Ann Williams, Innova’s global senior vice president for research, recently told Food Ingredients First.
The vodka is crafted using a completely natural essence with no added sugar, delivering what the brand describes as a smooth taste with building heat that leaves a warm sensation on the lips.
“At Absolut Vodka, we have never been afraid to do things differently or create something bold,” says Craig van Niekerk, global VP of marketing at the company. “People want to feel some heat in their drinks. What better way to do it than by combining one of the world’s leading hot sauce brands with the world’s leading premium vodka brand?”
Heritage credentials
Both brands emphasize their heritage credentials. Tabasco has been produced in Louisiana, US, since 1868 using just three ingredients — handpicked red peppers, salt, and vinegar — with the pepper mash aged in reclaimed oak barrels for up to three years. Absolut, established in the 1870s, is distilled exclusively in Åhus, Sweden, using local water, proprietary yeast, and winter wheat.
“With more than 150 years of pepper expertise, it only made sense for us at Tabasco to partner with Absolut Vodka, another brand with a long, storied history that understands and cares about the craft that goes into its product,” says Christian Brown, head of agriculture at McIlhenny Company, the makers of Tabasco.
The bottle design blends both brands’ iconic packaging — Tabasco’s colors and diamond label on Absolut’s distinctive apothecary-inspired shape.
