FiE live: Alvinesa spotlights upcycled grape and olive extracts for food safety and health
30 Nov 2023 --- Alvinesa is showcasing its portfolio of upcycled natural extracts from byproducts of olive and grape production at this year’s Food Ingredients Europe (FiE). Diego Simon, the company’s chief scientific officer, details the cardiovascular health benefits of Vintera, a grape extract, and Hytolive, produced from olives — supported by clinical trials. Alvinesa replaces synthetic antioxidants with upcycled grape and olive ingredients

Innovation in functional beverages
20 Nov 2018 --- McCarter is a keen innovator in the functional beverage space with a wealth of innovations presented at SIAL 2018. The company has launched a new generation of vitamin waters made with active ingredients from health ingredient supplier Nexira. “Our Vitamin Water products are not only made without added preservatives or additives, but we bring in an extra high dosage of vitamins. All the vitamins inside offer 100 percent of the RDA. But what is special is what the products inside contain. They are sweetened by inulin and contain special ingredients such as Vinitrox made from the skin of the grape. There are clinical studies proving that Vinitrox in this dosage increases your sports performance by 10 percent and delays oxygen problems,” notes Milan Pasmik.
Diversifying beyond grape ingredients
20 Aug 2018 --- Welch’s Global Ingredients Group can supply ingredients from multiple regions across the US. Zach Longhini at the company tells FoodIngredientsFirst how Welch’s is improving its marketing on the Concord grape and is also looking into health and well-being benefits of Concord grape consumption, such as potential cardiovascular benefits and how it can help with well-being, exercise health and recovery. “We’re looking into cognitive health and mental health benefits too, trying to better understand how it works there as well as exercise health and recovery so 'how can the grape help from those standpoints?' The Concord grape is a superfruit and we’re constantly trying to get that word out,” he says.
The fusion of beer and wine flavors
21 Nov 2017 --- Innovative products from The Chilean Grape Group were on show at Anuga 2017. The first was Winebeer, promoted as “a nice contradiction” that puts the sophistication of a good sparkling wine and the refreshing taste of a beer in one bottle. It was created in Chile, where hops were added to the grapes and the second fermentation was done using the Charmat method. The second product is Frutos Rojos, which is targeted at adult consumers looking for an alternative to alcoholic drinks. It is a juice created with red fruits from Chile in a winemaking concept in order to provide a high quantity of polyphenols with a innovation, naturalness and a good taste.
