Winderlea Vineyard & Winery Earns Demeter Biodynamic & Stellar Organic Certifications
WinderleaVineyard and Winery, a boutique winery specializing in the limited production of Pinot noir and Chardonnay from Oregon, announced today that they have earned Demeter Biodynamic Certification for both farming and winemaking for their 16.5 acre estate in the Dundee Hills. At the same time, Winderlea earned Organic Certification by Stellar Certification Services under the US National Organic Program for both farming and winemaking. Winderlea Vineyard becomes the 59th vineyard and 29th US winery to earn Demeter certification.
Winderlea's recent Biodynamic and Organic Certifications are the culmination of 10 years work to build a sustainable business, centered on their farming and winemaking practices, for the creation of their wines. Winderlea owner and head of vineyard management, Bill Sweat, was drawn to Biodynamic agriculture because it treats the farm as a self-contained, self- sustaining ecosystem responsible for creating and maintaining its individual health and vitality without any external or unnatural additions. Sweat believes that as an integrated system Biodynamic farming addresses the health of the entire property and expresses the unique characteristics of his vineyard.
In addition to its farming practices Winderlea was recognized in 2015 as a wholly sustainable business with its certification as a B Corp. Winderlea is the 4th winery globally to achieve B Corp Certification for its comprehensive business sustainability practices. Winderlea's recent Biodynamic and Organic certifications continues to reinforce the company's ongoing commitment and B Corp Mission to "use business as a force for good."
