13 May 2024 --- The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revealed a series of measures to tackle the ongoing impact of avian flu (H5N1) in US dairy cattle. These include a cash injection of US$101 million for the prevention and treatment initiatives and up to US$28,000 per farm to enhance testing and biosecurity measures for curbing the virus’ spread. The USDA will provide funds worth US$98 million to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to fund these initiatives. “If needed, USDA has the authority, with Congressional notification, to make additional funds available,” it says.
