United Brands Company launches 3SUM malternative beverage

29/09/05 United Brands Company, producers and creator of innovative drinks, announced the launch of 3SUM(R), an exciting new ready-to-drink alcoholic beverage in revolutionary 16 oz. cans. The drink is the first of its kind in the malternative category -- infusing premium, triple-filtered malt beverage with fresh fruit flavors and a combination of caffeine, ginseng, and taurine. Available in four delicious flavors, Original, Apple, Watermelon and Tropical, 3SUM offers consumers an appealing combination of sophistication and mobility in a cutting-edge product.
3SUM differentiates itself from other mainstream malt beverages by offering the industry's first malternative product infusing caffeine, ginseng and taurine, in four unique varieties: Original, a mixed berry taste; Apple, a tart green apple tang; a cool, pink Watermelon flavor; and Tropical, a blend of exotic fruits.
As a testament to 3SUM's potential success, United Brands Co. conducted an introductory test in March 2005 after 7-Eleven expressed interest in capitalizing on the exploding trend of energy drinks. As a result, the world's largest convenience retailer launched full distribution of 3SUM on a national level. To date, the brand is also available in 19 states via the largest Wine and Spirit and Beer wholesalers in the country, and is expected to increase to 27 states by year end.
In addition to its new 16 oz. package, 3SUM producers also offer an 8.3 oz. can, including a value-priced trial package for retailers. 3SUM's smaller size option may help consumers drink more responsibly, enjoying the product without overdoing it, Michail says.
