UK to lead in wine consumption- report
Set to become Europe’s biggest spenders on wine within four years.
04/02/05 Britons are set to become Europe’s biggest spenders on wine within four years, according to a report.
Industry figures show drinkers in this country got through just over £5 billion of wine in 2003.
The figure is expected to rise to £6 billion by 2008 – moving the UK into second place in the world league above France. Only the USA is predicted to consume more.
The British love affair with the grape is demonstrated by a 21.5% growth in consumption between 1999 to 2003, figures from wine exhibition organisers Vinexpo show.
