Feb 20 2012 --- Tereos subsidiary Tereos TTD, the Czech Republic’s leading sugar and alcohol producer, has announced the acquisition of Moravský lihovar Kojetín, a distillery based in Moravia in the east of the Czech Republic.
Using molasses as a raw material, Moravský lihovar Kojetín produces a by-product from the processing of sugar beet into sugar, a very refined alcohol intended for the food production and cosmetics industries. Tereos TTD is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Kojetín distillery, which is renowned for the excellent quality of its highly refined alcohol. The distillery is based in the Moravia region, in which TTD has previously not been present.
“The acquisition of this distillery, which produces 20,000 m3 of highly refined alcohol a year, marks a major step forward in the development of our alcohols business. It will enable us to improve the creation of valuable products from molasses. This acquisition is part of our strategy of expanding our sugar beet processing business and attests to Tereos TTD’s dynamism in the alcohols market,” comments Oldrich Reinbergr, Chairman of the Management Board of Tereos TTD.
Tereos TTD is the leader in its market and already produces conventional alcohols and bioethanol at its plants in Dobrovice and Chrudim. In addition, Tereos TTD will now also produce highly refined alcohol from the Kojetín distillery, bringing its total volume to over 100,000 m3.
“Thanks to this new distillery, our enlarged range will enable us to strengthen our commercial position in the alcohols market,” explains Martin Kolár, Head of Sales and Marketing at Tereos TTD.
