Tate & Lyle Health Research Centre Opens at King’s College London
Dr Robert Fisher, President of Global Research and Development at Tate & Lyle, said: “Partnerships with the external research community help give us fresh ideas and insights".
30/10/08 Tate & Lyle welcomed the opening of the new Clinical Research Facility at King’s College London, St Thomas’ Hospital. This facility was made possible by a £4.5 million contribution from Tate & Lyle, over a five-year period, as previously announced on 7 September 2006.
The facility, which was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal, will support an interdisciplinary clinical research programme focusing on nutrition, obesity and cardiovascular health.
Collaboration between Tate & Lyle and the university dates back to the 1970s when research by scientists from the King’s College London and Tate & Lyle led to the development of the no-calorie sweetener SPLENDA Sucralose.
Iain Ferguson, Chief Executive of Tate & Lyle, said: “We are delighted to build on our existing and strong relationship with King's College through the development of this new research facility. By combining our commercial expertise in the food and drinks industry with King's expertise in health and nutrition we can share our knowledge and ultimately bring products to the market specifically developed to promote positive health benefits."
Dr Robert Fisher, President of Global Research and Development at Tate & Lyle, said: “Partnerships with the external research community help give us fresh ideas and insights. The partnership with King’s has particular relevance to the future development of our ENRICHTM service, which was created in response to the increasing consumer demand for great tasting, good value products that enhance healthy lifestyles.”
Tate & Lyle’s contribution to King’s College London is also helping fund a carbohydrate nutrition research laboratory and two new appointments at the research facility.
