Sundia launches new juice blends
All natural, 100% juices loaded with lycopene, the most powerful of antioxidants.
15/03/06 Less than six months ago, Sundia launched the original Sundia Watermelon Juice. Now, Sundia Corporation announces three new juice blends: Watermelon Pomegranate, Watermelon Blackberry, and Watermelon Lime. Sundia blended watermelon juice with deep, rich-colored fruit juices to create antioxidant powerhouses. Because of the watermelon base, each is naturally loaded with lycopene, the most powerful antioxidant of all. Like the original, all three are made with 100% juice and contain no preservatives or added sugar.
Sundia Watermelon Pomegranate combines two antioxidant powerhouses. Pomegranate juice has been shown to have three times as much antioxidant as an equivalent amount of green tea or red wine, while watermelon juice is the leading source of natural lycopene, the most potent scavenger of oxygen radicals.
Several studies suggest that lycopene lowers the risks for prostate cancer as well as breast, cervical, gastrointestinal, colorectal, and lung. Lycopene has also been linked to cardiovascular health, the prevention of macular degeneration, the reduction of high blood pressure associated with pregnancy, and, in combination with other antioxidants, may help to reduce sunburn.
Research also suggests that pomegranate juice promotes a healthy heart by preventing the hardening of arteries, reversing buildup of plaque on artery walls, and reducing blood pressure. But it doesn't contain lycopene. Blending watermelon with pomegranate juice delivers the health benefits of both fruits.
Based on focus group studies, Sundia is betting that Americans will find its Watermelon Pomegranate Juice a tastier drink than 100% pomegranate juice.
An 8 ounce serving of Sundia's Watermelon Pomegranate delivers 340 milligrams of potassium, 9 milligrams of lycopene, 20% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A and 25% of vitamin C, as well as nominal percentages of iron and calcium. And at $1.69 for a 12 ounce bottle or $5.99 for 64 ounces, the new health juice makes it easy to enjoy the benefits year round.
Because it's always better to eat a variety of fruits rather than focusing on one for maintaining a healthy diet, Sundia created different combinations that deliver other fruits' health benefits while continuing the company's focus on delivering a natural source of lycopene.
An 8 ounce serving of Watermelon Blackberry juice or Watermelon Limeade contains 9 milligrams and 11 milligrams of lycopene, respectively. Additionally, Watermelon Blackberry contains 340 milligrams of potassium, 20% of the recommended daily value of vitamin A and 25% of vitamin C. At 30%, Watermelon Limeade contains a slightly higher percentage of Vitamin A in an 8 ounce serving than the other Sundia juices.
Lycopene is a carotenoid that gives certain fruits and vegetables such as watermelon and tomatoes their red color. Watermelon's rise to superfood status came after the USDA Agricultural Research found that a serving can contain up to 40% more lycopene than an equivalent amount of tomatoes, another leading natural source of lycopene. But unlike the lycopene contained in tomatoes, that in watermelon is readily absorbed by the human body without needing to be cooked or pasteurized.
Sundia is also promoting the consumption of fresh watermelons. Sundia-branded fresh watermelons are fast making their way into grocery stores nationwide. The company has forged partnerships with the country's leading watermelon growers and suppliers to promote the health benefits of the ancient fruit. By the end of the month, 30% of the nation's watermelon supply will carry the Sundia trademark.
Sundia fresh watermelons are now available in several western states, including California, Arizona, and New Mexico. By the end of April, Sundia watermelons will be available nationwide. The new juices, along with the Original Sundia Watermelon Juice, are expected to be on produce shelves in major grocery stores nationwide by Memorial Day.
Sundia Corporation, devoted to the premium watermelon experience year-round, is the first company to mass-produce watermelon juice. Located in San Francisco, the privately-held company's products include Sundia Watermelon Juice, Sundia Fresh Watermelon, and Sundia Watermelon Concentrate (patent no. 6589581).
