Speyburn Launches New Limited Release Whisky

29 Sep 2015

29 Sep 2015 --- Speyburn, the emblematic Scotch whisky from Speyside, is announcing the launch of the newest addition to its range, Arranta Casks. The U.S. only limited release is unique for its exclusive use of first fill American Oak ex-bourbon casks and draws its rich color and full-bodied flavor from the quality and character of the wood.

This latest release shows off a bolder take on the classic Speyburn flavor profile of citrus, vanilla and honey with the added notes of toffee, coconut and spice imparted by the use of the first fill American Oak ex-bourbon casks, which were hand-selected by Speyburn’s Distillery Manager Robert Anderson.

“As well as using first fill barrels only, all the wood used to make these barrels is air-dried. Air-dried barrels — as opposed to bourbon barrels that are kiln-dried — maintain more moisture and flavor throughout the process,” says Anderson. “We are excited to offer a new take on the Speyburn taste that you know and love and elevate it for an even bolder flavor that truly over delivers.”

“Arranta” meaning ‘bold’, ‘daring’ and ‘intrepid’ in Scottish Gaelic, Arranta Casks embodies the spirit of the Speyburn distillery.

Speyburn Arranta Casks is bottled at 46% abv (92 proof) and will be available on August 15 as a limited release, exclusively in the U.S. at a suggested retail price of $40.

About Speyburn

Known as Scotland’s most picturesque distillery, Speyburn is nestled in a secluded Speyside glen, where it draws on the pure waters of the Granty Burn for the creation of its award-winning whisky. Ever since John Hopkins founded the distillery over a hundred years ago, Speyburn has continued to harness the natural elements of the Spey valley to create a unique single malt whisky. Continuously innovating throughout the years, Speyburn has recently undergone major expansion following ongoing customer demand and long-term forecasted growth. Alongside this expansion, which has significantly reduced the distillery’s carbon footprint and allowed it to increase production considerably, Speyburn has retained its time-honored distillation methods and many of its original features, such as its pagoda roof, wooden wash backs, unique stills and traditional dunnage warehouses. It is thanks to this balance of tradition and innovation that Speyburn has earned more than 30 awards since 2010, including numerous gold and double gold medals. Speyburn honors this proud legacy by continuously trusting in its instincts, and is pleased to present as a result its latest and most daring expression yet: Arranta Casks.

Speyburn Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky was first distilled on December 15, 1897, the diamond jubilee year of Queen Victoria. Today, Speyburn continues to use the time-honored tradition distillation methods that created the single barrel of the 1897 vintage. The portfolio includes Speyburn Bradan Orach, Speyburn 10 year old and Speyburn 25 year old expressions.
