Similac Organic, The First Organic Infant Formula from Abbott
The launch of Similac Organic answers the demand from today's health-conscious moms who want to introduce their babies to an organic lifestyle.
17/10/06 Abbott announced that it has launched Similac Organic, the first certified USDA organic infant formula from a major formula brand moms know and trust. Moms are increasingly interested in organic products to give their babies a strong start; but until now, an organic formula was not available from a major brand. As a leader in infant nutrition, Abbott's Ross Products Division is pioneering new ways to meet babies' nutritional needs and keep pace with parents' changing lifestyles.
The launch of Similac Organic answers the demand from today's health-conscious moms who want to introduce their babies to an organic lifestyle. Research shows that pregnancy triggers greater attention to health and nutrition. In fact, a recent survey conducted by the Hartman Group, the leading expert organic consulting agency, reveals that more than half of moms age 25 to 45 are using or are open to using organic products.
"Our research indicates that having children is the most significant motivator for people to start buying organic products," said Gary McCullough, president, Abbott's Ross Products Division. "Moms tell us they want to be more proactive in providing better nutrition and healthier lifestyles for their children. Similac Organic fills an unmet need as the first organic infant formula from a national brand that moms and pediatricians know and trust."
Demand for organic products is rising dramatically, and families increasingly are choosing wholesome, organic options as part of a healthy lifestyle. Consumer research shows that the sale of organic foods is growing at a rate of 15 percent to 25 percent annually. Additionally, two-thirds of U.S. consumers have bought organic products, and more than a quarter purchase organic products on a daily or weekly basis.
According to the Organic Trade Association, consumer sales of organic foods reached $13.8 billion in 2005. And organic foods are becoming more mainstream, with most chain retailers offering organic options. In fact, the majority of organic food sales come from conventional supermarkets and grocery stores.
