Quaker launches Weight Control Instant Oatmeal

07/09/05 An estimated 74 million Americans are currently on a diet and millions more are watching their weight, proving that weight is weighing heavily on people's minds.  Building on the nutritional benefits of oatmeal, Quaker introduces Weight Control Instant Oatmeal, specially designed with 25% more whole grains, fiber and protein to help people feel full.

Studies show that oatmeal is one of the most filling foods a person can eat. In addition to its fiber and protein, Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal has no added sugar and offers a great-tasting and convenient way not only to manage weight but fit in important whole grains (each packet provides two of the three daily servings recommended by the USDA).  Oatmeal is the only whole grain recognized by the FDA to reduce cholesterol, which is important in reducing the risk of heart disease.

Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal recently hit most grocery and mass store shelves nationwide and is available in two classic flavors: Cinnamon and Banana Bread.  Each box contains eight packages of instant oatmeal and has a suggested retail price of $3.69.

In 1997, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted the first food-specific health claim to Quaker Oats for soluble fiber in oatmeal and its heart-health benefits.  The Quaker Oats Company, headquartered in Chicago, is a unit of PepsiCo, Inc., one of the world's largest consumer packaged good companies.  Quaker's brands include Quaker Oatmeal, Quaker Rice Snacks, Cap'n Crunch and Life cereals, Rice-A-Roni and Near East side dishes and Aunt Jemima pancake mixes and syrups.
