Pie Maker Sees the Benefits of ‘Susceptor’ Laminate
LPF Flexibles worked with us to create exactly the right pattern for the laminate that matched our ingredients, so that our pies and other pastry products would cook to perfection and quickly.
29/06/09 Food lovers in Australia and New Zealand are preparing crispy microwavable snack foods in double-quick time thanks to packaging specialist LPF Flexibles’ innovative ‘susceptor’ laminate.
The metalised film laminate features a pattern unique to each product allowing microwave energy to enter the pack to create the effects of an oven.
Leading Australian pie maker Mrs Mac’s is the latest food manufacturer to make use of the benefits of the safety susceptor laminate for its Quick and Crispy Microwave Range.
Johan Schouwstra, sales manager at LPF Flexibles, says snack foods that are heated up in the microwave can often come out soggy and inedible.
"But this technology ensures that frozen snack foods heat up and cook effectively and have a crispy texture for the consumer to enjoy," Schouwstra says.
“The laminate is particularly suitable for pastry products such as pies, as well as pizzas, fries and bread, all the sorts of foods that would normally cook better in a traditional oven.
"Now all these items can be ready in a matter of seconds instead of minutes or hours.”
Merilyn Elson, marketing manager at Mrs Mac’s adds that as Australia’s premium crispy microwave pie maker, it was imperative that the company got its packaging just right to provide a quick snack product that would taste as delicious as a home made pie.
“LPF Flexibles worked with us to create exactly the right pattern for the laminate that matched our ingredients, so that our pies and other pastry products would cook to perfection and quickly,” Elson says.
LPF Flexibles works closely alongside its customers to develop and tailor the perfect susceptor pattern for a particular snack food. It will also assist where necessary in modifying the ingredients of a product to obtain maximum results.
