Non-GMO: Ingredia and Cayuga Milk partner on dairy ingredients
23 Feb 2018 --- Ingredia now has non-GMO Project Verified ultra-filtered milk, MPC and MPI available through its partner, Cayuga Milk Ingredients.
According to Non-GMO Project Verified’s website, the total market sales in 2017 totaled US$24.5 billion coming from over 45,000 different retail products.
This market is projected to grow +16.23 percent annually over the next three years. The Non-GMO Project Verified Group has seen a +17 percent growth in non-GMO Project Verified retail sales across 13,000 different retails in 2017.
The Mellman Group found that 89 percent of Americans favor mandatory labels for food products that contain GMOs. With a delay in government regulations, consumers will continue to need a verification they can trust for their product.
Speaking to FoodIngredientsFirst, Kate Sager, Marketing Manager for America at Ingredia said: “We are very excited about our new products and in the last couple weeks, the initial feedback has been very positive. Currently, in the US dairy space, if a company wants their finished products to be non-GMO project verified, they need to source organic certified ingredients, which come with a premium organic price. Our new proteins are non-GMO Project verified, but not organic, which makes the price more reasonable for current products that are non-GMO Project Verified and allows new players to gain access into this part of the market.”
“We have three products, MPC 85 percent, MPI 90 percent, and ultra-filtered milk,” she adds.
Ingredia, in partnership with Cayuga Milk Ingredients, is now able to offer three protein solutions for the US market to meet consumer demand, including:
PROMILK 852 A is a native milk protein concentrate with a high protein amount: ≥ 85 percent on dry matter.
The protein is extracted by filtration, a non-denaturing process. Through the non-denaturing process, PROMILK 852A contains both micellar casein (80 percent) and native whey (20 percent) in the same ratio as skim milk.
This well-known milk protein is used for protein enrichment, increasing dairy solids, and texture enhancement.
It is suitable for a wide variety of applications including yogurt, ice cream, beverages, and nutritional applications.
This native milk protein is easy to solubilize and resistant to heat treatment.
PRODIET 90 is also a native milk protein isolate with a high protein amount: ≥ 90 percent on a dry matter that is low in carbohydrates and has a low lactose content of 1 percent.
The protein is extracted by filtration, a non-denaturing process. Through the non-denaturing process, PRODIET 90 contains both micellar casein (80 percent) and native whey (20 percent) in the same ratio as skim milk.
The lactose-reduced content of this protein allows the formulation of products with low and reduced lactose content claims.
