New Pomegranate Processing Facility Also Offers Contract Services
The new 2500 sq. ft. facility will process Canagra’s pomegranate extracts as well as provide contract services in the area of extraction, fractionation, freeze drying, tray drying, and toll processing.
05/09/06 POS Pilot Plant client Canagra Technologies, a Saskatoon-based manufacturer of pomegranate extracts, has opened its own manufacturing and toll processing facility. The new 2500 sq. ft. facility will process Canagra’s pomegranate extracts as well as provide contract services in the area of extraction, fractionation, freeze drying, tray drying, and toll processing. These services will be of interest to manufacturers and researchers in industries such as natural health products (dietary supplements), cosmeceutical, functional food, and pet foods industries.
“POS is pleased to see this expanded capability in Saskatoon,” says Dr. Paul Fedec, POS Pilot Plant Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs. “It offers additional opportunities for collaboration within the life-sciences community. For instance, the scale of Canagra’s drying equipment makes it the next step following exploratory work done at POS, especially in the area of freeze drying.”
According to Canagra President Mr. Ashraf Abdellatif, Canagra has put in place key quality programs and designed its electrical utilities to ensure the regulatory and manufacturing requirements of clients are met. “Our quality programs include HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). Our facility also complies with ISO 9000, and US FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) as a manufacturing facility under the Bioterrorism Act regulations. Electrical service is compatible with standard manufacturing requirements. We can provide 575 volt 3 phase, 480 volt 3 phase, 208 volt 3 phase and 208 volt single phase.”
