New Chicory Pack Increases Sales by 20% and Wins Dutch Packaging Supply Chain Prize 2005
The award recognizes the most successful co-operation of different companies on the path to launching a "new" concept on the Dutch market.
25/01/06 Amcor Flexibles together with 7 other companies has won the 2005 Dutch packaging Supply Chain Prize (Nederlandse Verpakkingsketen Prijs) for a flow wrapped 500g pack of fresh chicory.
Presented at the Dutch Packaging Awards ceremony in Rotterdam, the award recognizes the most successful co-operation of different companies on the path to launching a "new" concept on the Dutch market. The jury of Chief Editors of five Dutch trade journals selected Amcor Flexibles, Quality Growers Holland, The Greenery, Deka-Markt, Visser Media Producties, Creative Formula, Ulma Packaging and Espera Nederland as the joint winners for their part in revitalising the chicory market with a product which has increased sales by 20%.
Produced by Amcor Flexibles Ledbury in the UK, the winning flexo printed 25 micron OPP flow wrap was Amcor P-Plus treated ensuring the correct modified atmosphere to optimise shelf life. An antimist system further maintained freshness and quality and enhanced the visibility of the chicory on the retail shelf.
The judges recognized that chicory sales had been declining in recent years and the close cooperation between these companies succeeded in delivering a new pack format for chicory which has been readily accepted by consumers and achieved a considerable increase in sales within just a few months of its launch.
The award was received by Amcor Flexibles for the packaging, Quality Growers Holland the chicory grower, The Greenery for transit packaging, retailer Deka-Markt, design agencies Visser Media Producties and Creative Formula and packaging machinery suppliers Ulma Packaging and Espera Nederland.
