NBTY to buy assets of Solgar Vitamin and Herb
To pay $115 million for the deal.
10/06/05 Nutritional supplement distributor NBTY Inc. of Bohemia, L.I., has agreed to buy nearly all of the assets of Solgar Vitamin and Herb for $115 million.
Leonia, N.J.-based Solgar, a division of Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, manufactures and distributes vitamins, minerals, botanicals and specialty supplements. Wyeth, formerly known as American Home Products, bought the company in 1998 for $425 million. Solgar's revenues totaled about $105 million last year.
NBTY sells vitamins, minerals, herbs, sports drinks, and other goods under the brand names Nature's Bounty, Sundown, American Health, and Good 'N Natural. The company reported sales of about $1.7 million in 2004.
Included in the deal are net assets of about $64 million. The actual purchase price will be adjusted to reflect the actual net assets transferred at closing, said NBTY in a statement.
