National Starch Launches Certified Organic Functional Native Starches
As pioneers in developing value-adding clean label ingredients, National Starch Food Innovation created Novation 9260 and Novation 9230 to optimise texture and viscosity in a wide range of applications.
03/06/08 National Starch Food Innovation has launched two new certified organic functional native starches as part of its patented Novation portfolio. Novation 9260 and Novation 9230 are derived from waxy maize and benefit from a ‘certified organic’ label. The ingredients’ diverse functionality and proven performance allow manufacturers to deliver differentiated organic prepared foods without compromising on quality.
As pioneers in developing value-adding clean label ingredients, National Starch Food Innovation created Novation 9260 and Novation 9230 to optimise texture and viscosity in a wide range of applications. These include ready meals, soups, sauces and dressings. The consumer-friendly ‘organic’ front-of-pack label and simple ‘organic starch’ ingredients listing on the back maximise end products’ consumer appeal. The Novation range provides a variety of processing benefits including excellent batch-to-batch consistency and extended shelf life stability.
Resistant to heat, acid and shear, Novation 9260 and Novation 9230 simplify scale up of home-style recipes. As a result, food developers can respond to consumer demand for easy-to-heat and -eat dishes with a valuable ‘organic’ proposition. Plus, the ingredients’ characteristic clean flavour release provides added versatility for food developers.
National Starch Food Innovation’s latest launches complement its existing range of certified organic tapioca-based functional native starches ideal for delicate flavour systems such as baby food and dairy products. In addition to certified organic options, the company offers a wide range of waxy maize-based options verified for inclusion in processed foods in accordance with the EC’s 95% rule, which allows for up to 5 per cent of ingredients to be from non-organic sources.
Laura Goodbrand, European marketing manager, wholesome, National Starch Food Innovation, commented: “The organic trend shows no signs of waning. The expansion of our trusted Novation range will help our customers differentiate their products and capture a greater share of the organic market. As the first company to develop clean label functional native starches, we’re experienced in creating trusted additive-free and organic solutions. So whether converting to organic or new to Novation, manufacturers can achieve an organic label without complicating processing or lessening eating enjoyment.”
