National Starch Expands Clean Label Starch Range
With a choice of instant and cook-up options, Novation starches can be used to enhance the quality of a wide range of additive-free or organic foods – from ready meals, gravies, soups and sauces to dairy products and fruit preparations.
2 Jun 2010 --- National Starch Food Innovation has extended its Novation range of clean label functional native starches in Europe with Novation Uno 260, a cost-effective solution which enables food manufacturers to formulate additive-free, appealing foods without the performance variability of traditional native starches.
While offering an appealing simple ‘starch’ label, traditional native starches can be problematic. They do not perform consistently in all food systems and can bring issues such as gelling and syneresis which results in shelf-life instability. In comparison, Novation Uno 260 provides the required functionality and performance for low to moderate process tolerant systems. With a clean taste profile, Novation Uno 260 is particularly suitable for neutral sauces and soups.
Laura Goodbrand, European marketing manager, wholesome, National Starch Food Innovation, commented: “Many food formulators are looking to tap into the growing additive-free market but have been put off by the unpredictable performance of native starches. With Novation Uno 260, manufacturers can convert to clean label and target consumers who want wholesome convenient foods that deliver on taste, indulgence and value.”
Goodbrand continued: “We’re continually expanding our range of Novation functional clean label starch solutions because we recognise that every customers’ needs are different. From Novation Uno 260 through to our core Novation products which offer more functionality in application, there’s a Novation solution for every need. For example, our premium quality Novation Prima takes freeze/thaw stability to the next level, while Novation Indulge delivers new and interesting textures and co-texturising appeal.”
Since its launch over 13 years ago, the Novation range has established itself as the standard for clean label quality and functionality, delivering proven performance across diverse applications. Novation starches are classed as ingredients, not additives, and offer the advantage of a simple ‘starch’ back-of-pack label declaration as well as an ‘additive-free’ front-of-pack positioning. Novation Uno 260 follows other recent additions to the range, which include Novation 4300, Novation 5300 and Novation 6260.
