Multivac To Extend Its Product Range
With the Multivac Clean Design the R 145 meets the requirements of the medical products industry with regard to its ease of cleaning, process reliability, and cleanroom suitability.

1/14/2011 --- In order to improve even further its response to the demands of the medical products industry in the area of its compact thermoforming packaging machines, Multivac has redesigned its R 145 model in the Multivac Clean Design. With this redesign Multivac is extending its range of thermoforming packaging machines for the medical products industry with a particularly efficient entry level model for the packing of sterile medical products in small and medium batch sizes. The machine will be seen for the first time at MEDTEC Europe in Stuttgart from the 22nd to the 24th of March 2011.
The R 145 is among the range of Multivac's compact thermoforming packaging machines. Thanks to its wide selection of available die sets and modular construction the R 145 is capable of being enhanced very easily and can therefore be ideally tailored to the requirements of the producer. The Multivac range of thermoforming packaging machines which are designed for the packing of medical products now comprises three models in different performance classes: R 535, R 245 and R 145.
With the Multivac Clean Design the R 145 meets the requirements of the medical products industry with regard to its ease of cleaning, process reliability, and cleanroom suitability.
Machine speed and high sealing quality
In terms of performance the R 145 has much to offer: its lifting systems are equipped with higher closing pressures and the sealing station was designed such that an even more precise temperature distribution over the whole sealing surface is assured. By these means pack seals with higher peel strengths are generated, which in turn ensures that maximum seal quality and pack integrity are assured. In addition the R 145 is very flexible when it comes to the use of different packaging materials. Both flexible and semi-rigid materials as well as aluminium laminates can be run on the machine. The R 145 can reach up to 15 cycles/min.
Since the packaging of sterile medical products frequently takes place in a clean room environment the R 145 is also designed for these requirements. It can be cleaned very easily. This is due to both its smooth surface design and to the use of cleaning-friendly materials in its construction. The components of the packaging machine are easily accessible and this facilitates their maintenance.
The technically pioneering die change system with Multivac's thermoforming packaging machines, which is also integrated into the R 145, enables a format change to be carried out very easily. In this way the machine can be used very flexibly and assists producers in packing even those smaller batch sizes very efficiently on thermoforming packaging machines.
Other Exhibits
In addition to the exhibition highlight, the R 145, Multivac will also be exhibiting the T 260 Traysealer, which was developed for the packing of delicate medical products such as implants in small and medium batch sizes.
Process reliability and recordability will be demonstrated with the example of the C 400 TC, a special chamber machine with temperature controlled sealing bar for sterile medical products. The identification of the individual components of the overall process is assured through barcodes and RFID, so that the packing process is constantly monitored, safeguarded and recorded.
All the packaging machines to be exhibited at MEDTEC Europe meet the high requirements of the medical products industry. As Luc van de Vel, Director of the MCI Division at Multivac emphasizes, "Our solutions ensure a reliable, reproducible and traceable packing process. At the same time we make possible a high degree of individualisation of the pack content and its product coding".
