Mondi Release Liner Plant in Austria Achieves FSC-Certification
The FSC certification underscores Mondi’s commitment to sustainable development as an integral part of the business strategy. Other Mondi Release Liner plants are expecting to be FSC-certified in the near future.
Feb 3 2012 --- Mondi Release Liner Austria is certified according to the FSC “Chain of Custody” system. This system ensures the complete traceability of FSC-certified paper through the supply chain, from the forest to the customer, including each successive stage of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. The plant in Hilm currently holds FSC certification for its bleached kraft paper, which is commonly used for envelopes, labels and graphic arts. The certification can be extended to encompass other paper grades at the request of customers.
Franz Pehn, Managing Director of Mondi Release Liner Austria states, “our FSC certificate enables us to play an integral part in the sustainable supply chain within the converting and release liner industry. Our customers can be certain that our raw materials are sourced in a sustainable way that conserves nature and protects our forests. We are thus supporting our customers’ own GO GREEN initiatives and we provide them with another distinctive feature.”

Responsible forestry
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organisation promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC-certified forests are managed to ensure long term timber supplies while protecting the environment and the lives of forest-dependent people. FSC certification is therefore awarded for good management practices that include strong social, environmental and economic activities.
Mondi supports and promotes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). We believe that credible certification provides our customers, consumers and stakeholders with assurance that the wood and fibre we manage and procure have been legitimately sourced from sustainable forests, and that traceability systems are regularly inspected, audited and certified. All Mondi owned or leased forests in South Africa (0.3 million hectares) and Russia (2.1 million hectares) are certified in compliance with the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). For mill operations that use virgin fibre, we commit to ensuring a CoC certification from FSC, PEFC or a credible alternative.
