Men overtake women in Britain when it comes to chocolate consumption
Three in five men snack on chocolate, compared with just half of women.
19/07/2004 Chocolate is now the UK’s second most popular snack, behind fruit, mainly because of men’s appetite for the sweet treat. More than half (53 per cent) of adults regularly snack on their favourite bars.
Chocolate was once largely marketed at women through campaigns such as "And all because the lady loves Milk Tray", but brands such as Yorkie are appealing to men with their "Not for Girls" campaign and a limited-edition "Blokie Bar".
The survey of a 1,000 adults also found health-conscious consumers are rejecting crisps and biscuits and replacing them with fruit.
Fresh fruit is now the number one snack in the UK, with 57 per cent of adults choosing it between meals - compared with 50 per cent only two years ago.
