Launch of Gin House – G&J Distillers’ Exclusive Premium Gin Museum
13 Nov 2013 --- Scott GreenThe Palace of Santa Barbara in Madrid last week became THE GIN HOUSE, a unique museum of premium gins from G & J Distillers, one of the oldest distilleries in England.
The Gin House features the floral BLOOM Gin, the herbaceous and spicy Berkeley Square London Dry Gin and Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin, recently launched in Spain, presented by the Master Distiller Joanne Moore, and Luis Luengo, CEO of Grupo Caballero, exclusive distributor of G & J Distillers’ gins in Spain.
Joanne Moore, Master Distiller of G & J Distillers and the first female Master Gin Distiller of the world, provided a tasting with an innovative format to stimulate the five senses: a tour of three premium gins created personally by her and each evoking a different personality. Joanne said: ” It takes some courage to leave the comfort zone of traditional gins and try new flavours, while remaining true to the definition of gin. I have great passion for creativity and always try to give my personal touch to new creations.”
The event began with a tasting of BLOOM, for which an authentic English garden was recreated, with honeysuckle, chamomile and grapefruit, and in which attendees could pick fresh strawberries to garnish the floral aroma of the gin. In addition to the perfect serve, BLOOM gin and tonic with strawberries, guests could enjoy the cocktail BLOOM Pomelo Twist, which enhances the flavour of pomelo, one of the botanicals in this premium gin. Scott Green, recent winner of the Berkeley Square Gin Cocktail Competition in London came exclusively for the occasion and accompanied Joanne Moore for the Berkeley Square tasting. He prepared several cocktails offered in London as a bartender of 34 Restaurant – a gin and tonic with basil and a Berkeley Square Dry Martini.
Scott said he was delighted by the growing taste for gin in Spain which is as fashionable in Spain as it is in London and was pleased by the arrival of the new genuinely British gins from G & J Distillers. Participants were then immersed in a spice souk with its aromas, colours and music, transporting them to the Far East as a setting for the exotic tasting Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin – the unique spiced gin on the market. Aromas of black pepper, cardamom and coriander were reminiscent of the ancient spice route which inspired Joanne Moore to create this groundbreaking gin which gives a classic twist on a gin and tonic. The Oriental Experience Opihr cocktail with spicy syrup and lemon juice was created especially for the occasion. The Gin House was made up of three rooms and three gins, one for every taste.
