Kraft Heinz Cuts 6% of Workforce as Seven Plants Close, 2,600 Jobs Losses
06 Nov 2015 --- The widely anticipated cost efficiencies at the newly formed Kraft Heinz company have begun, with the announcement that the company is to close seven manufacturing sites in the US and Canada with the loss of 2,600 jobs. A further site in Wisconsin is to move to Illinois, resulting in further loss of local jobs.
Both Kraft Foods and Heinz reported a dip in sales in the months prior to their merger. Sales declines throughout the processed food industry, including at General Mills and Campbell’s, have been blamed on a consumer shift away from processed foods with high added ingredient content, towards more healthy, natural products.
Kraft Heinz had previously announced the loss of 2,500 jobs. This latest announcement brings the total jobs losses to date to over 5,000, more than 10% of the global workforce.
