Korsnäs Introduces New Lightweight Packaging at Marks & Spencer
Made from 100 % virgin fibre, Korsnäs Artisan is a specially designed multi-layered cartonboard with a light-coated top surface and an uncoated reverse side.
Oct 27 2011 --- Korsnäs introduces Korsnäs Artisan, its new innovative lightweight cartonboard, offering quality luxurious packaging, in addition to business and environmental savings.
Made from 100 % virgin fibre, Korsnäs Artisan is a specially designed multi-layered cartonboard with a light-coated top surface and an uncoated reverse side. The board’s composition of long resilient fibres provides a robust packaging material, whilst the super-smooth and silky exterior offers excellent printing properties.
Korsnäs Artisan’s quality and durability make it an ideal packaging material for luxury products such as cosmetics, perfume and exclusive confectionery and celebration foods.
Speaking at the launch of Luxe Pack in Monaco, Sven Hjelmstedt, Business Manager Cartonboard, Korsnäs, said: “Our new innovative cartonboard offers a unique satin quality, which is not only very smooth but very pleasant for customers to touch and feel. Packaging made of Korsnäs Artisan offers elegance and a distinct sense of understated luxury – perfect for premium market goods.”
As made from virgin fibre, Korsnäs Artisan meets the strictest hygiene requirements and is approved for direct contact with food. Marks & Spencer is the first retailer to use the packaging for its Carrot &Walnut and Lemon Drizzle cakes.
In addition to its high quality finish, the new packaging also offers both business and environmental benefits in keeping with Marks & Spencer’s ethical and environmental programme, Plan A. The light-weight cartonboard saves approximately 20 gsm on the overall weight of the board compared to the material previously used. This packaging reduction will help Marks & Spencer to reduce its carbon footprint, by reducing the number of pallets needed to be transported and stored, as well as fewer raw materials moving throughout the supply chain. The board is also 100 % recyclable.
Anne Harding, Packaging Manager at Marks & Spencer, said: “Our new packaging using Korsnäs Artisan cartonboard not only beautifully showcases our cakes for our customers, it also helps our Plan A commitment to reduce the amount of packaging we use. We’ve already reduced our food packaging by an average of 25 % and through using innovative materials such as this; we’re reducing our packaging even further.”
Darryl Rice, End User Director at Korsnäs, said: “Korsnäs Artisan should appeal to owners of luxury brands that want to differentiate themselves and engage their customers with a luxury quality finish. I expect this material to become a huge success in the Health & Beauty market, especially amongst luxury cosmetic and perfume. The lightweight board also have many benefits for brands looking for business and environmental benefits.”
