Kirin Group and Yakult Honsha team up in Japan

16/06/05 Kirin Brewery, Yakult Honsha and Kirin Beverage have jointly announced that they have agreed to collaborate in health and functional foods business in Japan, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The market for health and functional foods is regarded as a market with growth potential.
As for the existing beverage and food business, they will share their production and distribution functions. Further, Kirin Beverage and Yakult Honsha will strengthen their current partnership in the vending machine business.
In line with the new alliance, Kirin Beverage will acquire 1.40% of Yakult Honsha's outstanding shares for 5 billion yen ($46 mil). Meanwhile, Yakult Honsha will acquire 0.44% and 0.36% of the outstanding shares of Kirin Brewery and Kirin Beverage, respectively.
