Kerry Launches Taste & Nutrition Portfolio
03 Dec 2014 --- Kerry, the market leader in taste and nutrition solutions has announced details of its portfolio that spans all life stages and need states at Health Ingredients Europe (HIE), 2014 in Amsterdam. While Kerry’s nutrition offering encompasses everything from infant nutrition, general wellness to healthcare nutrition, all solutions have the common aim of delivering scientific based nutritional solutions that taste great.
“While consumers are clearly showing increased interest in health and wellbeing, it is evident that they are not willing to compromise on taste, even for health benefits,’ said Albert McQuaid PhD, chief technical officer of functional ingredients and actives at Kerry.
‘Kerry’s integrated approach, which combines science, innovation and applications expertise ensures that healthier products, which might have lower salt, sugar, fat content or be nutritionally fortified, are not compromised on taste and consequent consumer enjoyment.
‘Our aim is to partner with our customers to develop, scientifically based nutritional solutions that are better for you and also taste great – taste in this context really is ‘King’ at Kerry,” continued McQuaid.
Life stages, need states and day parts form the backbone of Kerry’s approach to nutrition, which includes a range of specialised proteins, nutritional lipids, taste solutions, and functional ingredients.
During the first 12 months a baby experiences the most rapid growth and development period in its lifetime. Nutrition is critical at this time, as the baby’s diet must support this rapid growth rate. The brain, heart and kidneys will have doubled in size by a baby’s first birthday. Healthy, well-nourished infants and children have the energy to respond to and learn from the stimuli in their environment and to interact.
Digestive balance is key. When it is disrupted, it negatively affects a child’s ability to fend off infections and because their immune systems are still immature, young infants and children are less able to mount an effective immune response to fight infections compared to adults.
Kerry has been researching and developing nutrition solutions for infants and children for more than 30 years enabling healthy growth and development in the key areas of cognition, digestion and immunity, ensuring that young children grow up to be as big, strong and bright as nature intended.
As populations continue to age across the globe, by working with our customers Kerry aims to create food and beverage products for ageing adults that build and sustain health.
Non communicable diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are all on the rise. Kerry is working with customers to develop nutritional solutions that can include wholegrain, protein, fibre, heart healthy fats and functional ingredients to help consumers achieve healthier lifestyles.
There has been a steady increase in consumer demand for healthier food and beverages with people gaining more access to nutrition information and consequently becoming more aware of their nutritional requirements, and their overall health.
Kerry offers a range of complete solutions such as protein crisps and clusters for nutritional snacks, nutritionally fortified beverages as well as protein, fibre and wholegrain solutions. For the ever growing healthy snacking category, we have a wide range of dairy and vegetable based protein crisps, high protein fillings, cereal clusters, specialised proteins, and coatings. Taste is never compromised with our industry-leading portfolio of flavour technologies and our applications expertise.
Optimal nutrition provides the best platform for physical performance, from fuelling to recovery and muscle building to body composition. A well balanced diet with plenty of fluid intake and appropriate amounts of protein, fat, energy, iron, fibre, vitamins, and minerals helps the body perform at its best. Protein is essential for growth and repair of the body, and maintenance of good health. Kerry’s fully customisable solutions enable our customers to develop performance nutrition products that target specific lifestyle, exercise and recovery requirements for their consumers.
Kerry’s €100 million investment in a new Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Naas, Ireland will provide a focal point for advancing scientific research, innovative processing technologies and market leading technology platforms. Opening in the first quarter of 2015, Kerry’s Global Nutrition Centre of Excellence will be the linchpin of this major investment for Kerry. It will feature a stand-alone Nutrition Suite, which will be a hub for collaborative discovery based around consumer and market insight, nutritional science and leadership in innovation.
