White tea is the least processed of all teas and is not subjected to the oxidation common with black teas. Because white tea is harvested from only the leaves and buds of the tea plant, it also has a higher concentration of EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals in your body.
“I call it ‘Functionali-TEA,’” Hollace says. “It’s white tea, so it has the benefits of EGCG, but it’s standardized, so you know how much EGCG you’re getting per serving. It’s hard to judge that with a tea bag.”
