Innovative Concepts Designed to Add Homemade Feeling to Danisco Products

06/12/06 Homemade food you can trust, a healthy, balanced diet and more quality time with the family are unmet needs for many Western European consumers today. Danisco has heard the call and come up with inspiring concepts designed to add that homemade feeling to bakery products, frozen desserts, soups, sauces and dressings.
A Danisco consumer insight study uncovered the trends behind the concept’s development, observing the food-related behaviour of 15 consumers in three Western European countries and registering needs currently not satisfied. “The results of the study have redefined our definition of “homemade”,” says industry director at Danisco, Dorte Petersen. “We found that consumers no longer equate homemade food with “made from scratch” but with food that requires their involvement in the final stages of preparation and that gives them a degree of choice.”
Using these consumer insights, Danisco has drawn on its knowledge of ingredient functionality and key competences within food texture, appearance and taste to create three value-adding concepts - to the benefit of consumers and food manufacturers alike.
The “Cook as you like” concept comprises a convenient base that consumers can fast and easily turn into béarnaise and hollandaise sauce, mayonnaise, dressings, dips and soup. In “Freeze as you like”, consumers can create their own ice cream. “Bake as you like” provides opportunities for consumers to bake breads with homemade qualities.
“The ingredient technology used for these concepts ensures a successful result - again and again. In addition to meeting consumer needs, we hope to provide manufacturers with valuable inspiration for their new product development,” says Dorte Petersen.
