Heineken to reach India
Asia Pacific Breweries in talks with the CK Jaipuria group for a JV.
19/08/05 Heineken, among the world’s top three beer brands, is finally warming up to India. Heineken NV’s Asian arm, the Singapore-based Asia Pacific Breweries (APB), is in talks with PepsiCo India bottler -- the CK Jaipuria group -- for a JV to tap the 90-million-cases Indian beer market.
To begin with, APB plans to brew its Tiger and Anchor beer brands in breweries which will be owned and operated by the CK Jaipuria group. This could be either through a greenfield brewery or acquisitions. Sources said Heineken would be brought to India once the JV operations stabilise.
Major brands in APB’s portfolio include Heineken, Tiger, Anchor and Raffles. APB’s facility in Singapore brews and packs about one million hectolitres of beer each year.
