Glendalough Poitín to Make U.S. Launch Next Week
16 Jun 2014 --- Glendalough Distillery, Ireland’s first craft distillery announces the state side launch of their Glendalough Poitín. To coincide with the launch party, which is taking place on the 24th of June in The Saloon, Boston, Glendalough will also be running Boston’s best highball competition which seeks to find the best Poitín Cocktail in association with USBG – Bartender’s Guild Boston.
The first of its kind to reach American shores, Poitín is an historic part of Ireland’s heritage. An untold story to many, Poitín is the first spirit ever distilled, with earliest records from approx. 584ad in Ireland. Whiskey, also made famous by the Irish, is a direct descendant. Poitín was first made with expertise and reverence in monasteries like Glendalough by Irish monks, the master distillers of their time. Glendalough heralds a renaissance in the ancient art of distilling Poitín and aims to bring it back to its rightful place as an expertly crafted spirit with a long shadow and unique history.
The first batch of Glendalough Poitín reached US shores last February and now it is time to celebrate. The Glendalough range of Poitíns will be launching on Tuesday 24th of June in The Saloon, 255 Elm St, Sommerville from 6pm. There will be live music from Three Day Threshold. The night will also feature fire eaters and tattoo artists, all washed down with cocktails created by the best mixologists in Ireland.
The Glendalough Distillery is located just south of Dublin in the Wicklow Mountains on the road into Glendalough. Glendalough Poitín is meticulously crafted using recipes and methods passed down through generations. The Glendalough Poitín range is the Distillery’s first step in an exciting journey starting from a small distillery in the Wicklow mountains.
The launch in Boston is the perfect opportunity to taste the world’s oldest distilled drink, the original independent spirit of Ireland.
