George Weston Bakeries introduce new X-treme™ Breads
A new line of kid-friendly breads that combines the soft texture kids love with the nutrition moms want, and provides a better- for-you alternative to traditional bread.
13/10/05 George Weston Bakeries, Inc. is redefining the way kids and moms look at bread with the introduction of its new X-treme(TM) Breads. The new line of kid-friendly breads combines the soft texture kids love with the nutrition moms want, and provides a better- for-you alternative to traditional bread. The X-treme White variety bread became available in August and the X-treme Wheat variety will be in stores starting in October. Both breads will be sold in the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest U.S. regions.
Each two-slice serving of X-treme Breads is an excellent source of calcium and a good source of fiber. It's also a good source of nine important vitamins and minerals including folic acid (folate) and iron. The combination of these ingredients makes it a truly functional food choice for children. Functional foods are foods that may provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Researchers have shown that such foods may be valuable contributors to the improvement of health and prevention of disease in the pediatric population.
Bread is a staple in the American diet and is easy to incorporate into children's diets. Simple options include a turkey and cheese sandwich for the lunchbox or an after-school snack of toast topped with peanut butter.
