General Mills Launches New Yoplait YoPlus Light to Regulate Digestive Health
Research shows that the combination of special cultures and fiber in YoPlus helps support digestive health and can help consumers regulate their digestive health when eaten regularly.
18 Sep 2009 --- Yoplait is shedding new light on digestive health by helping yogurt lovers regulate digestive health without compromising calorie intake or taste with the launch of YoPlus Light. Available in three delicious flavors -- Honey Vanilla, Strawberry Banana and Key Lime -- and with just 70 calories per cup, YoPlus Light is an easy way to help keep your digestive health on track.
Similar to YoPlus yogurts already available in supermarkets nationwide, YoPlus Light contains a special blend of probiotic cultures and a natural dietary fiber, but now with 36 percent fewer calories. Research shows that the combination of special cultures and fiber in YoPlus helps support digestive health and can help consumers regulate their digestive health when eaten regularly.
"Consuming probiotics regularly, like those in YoPlus Light, is a natural way to help regulate the digestive tract," said Nutrition Scientist, Tamara Schryver PhD, RD of the Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition. "The fiber in each cup helps to enhance the role of probiotics by offering additional digestive health benefits."
In addition to the probiotic culture Bifidobacterium lactis Bb-12, YoPlus Light contains the live and active yogurt cultures L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus. It is also a good source of calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D, and delivers Yoplait's signature great taste.
"YoPlus Light's delicious flavors, smooth and creamy texture, and the added benefit of probiotics make it a win-win option for someone looking for a lower-calorie yogurt with healthful digestive benefits," said Ryan Stalker, associate marketing manager for YoPlus.
This September and October, YoPlus and YoPlus Light will also have an added benefit. They will both be participating in Yoplait's Save Lids to Save Lives campaign to benefit breast cancer. For the first time, their lids will turn pink and for every pink lid mailed in by December 31, 2009, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure up to $1.5 million with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000.
New YoPlus Light is available on grocery store shelves nationwide along with popular YoPlus flavors -- Blueberry Acai (asa'i), Blackberry Pomegranate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Cherry and Peach. Suggested retail price is $2.79 per 4-pack of 4 ounce cups.
