Frutarom Forms Cooperation with German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL)
With this strategic cooperation, Frutarom intends to further improve the safety and stability of food products and to become the leading supplier of starter cultures in Europe.

3/25/2011 --- Frutarom Savory Solutions GmbH has forged an innovative partnership with the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL). Effective immediately, the institute will research exclusively for Frutarom in the field of starter cultures. With this strategic cooperation, Frutarom intends to further improve the safety and stability of food products and to become the leading supplier of starter cultures in Europe.
The DIL, which is located in Quakenbrueck in North West Germany, is one of Europe’s most highly regarded independent food technology research institutes. It focuses on the practical utilization of research results and developments in the food industry. As such, it is not only dedicated to theory and science, but also aims to achieve high levels of usability in industrial processes. This aspect of its work was particularly attractive to Frutarom Savory Solutions, a supplier of innovative ingredients for the meat, fish and convenience products industries.
As of now, the DIL will conduct research into aspects of starter cultures that are of special interest to Frutarom. Dieter Albers, head of R&D at Frutarom Savory Solutions Europe, comments: “With the DIL, we have gained an outstanding partner. During the course of our cooperation, we will systematically explore specific issues in the field of cultures and fermented foods and consequently implement this knowledge. Our aim is always to further increase the safety of food products – and to make them healthier.”
DIL director Dr. Volker Heinz is also convinced that the cooperation will bear fruit: “We have no doubt that the collaboration with Frutarom will be successful and very results-oriented. Industry cooperations are highly relevant for us, though such an exclusive cooperation is unusual. In this project, we will consolidate our comprehensive know-how with Frutarom’s expertise.”
There are many reasons why Dieter Albers is convinced that the institute’s knowledge and competence make it an excellent partner. Before joining Frutarom, Albers was Senior Manager Meat Technology at the DIL, responsible for transferring the institute’s research results into practice. This exclusive new cooperation contract is his initiative.
