06 Feb 2015 --- Forbidden Root, Chicago’s own botanic brewing company, debuts its single origin cacao line of beers under the Divine Mud label.
The first of the series, Heavy Petal, will be released to the Chicago market Monday, February 2, 2015. Throughout the year, Forbidden Root will offer different variants of the Divine Mud series in very limited release. All distribution will be through Windy City Distributing., LLC.
Heavy Petal is the first beer in a series devoted to celebrating the beauty of chocolate around the world,” says Robert Finkel, the company’s founder and rootmaster.
“Heavy Petal evokes the rich culinary history of the American South, featuring magnolia flowers, pecans and pure West African cacao – not just the nibs, but the 100 percent unsweetened ‘mass’ to create this very special Imperial Stout. We melted 6 pounds of chocolate into each barrel, effectively melting an entire unsweetened chocolate bar directly into every bottle. The magnolias enhance the chocolate’s floral notes and the pecans help integrate the bold roasty flavor into creating a full bodied beer—smooth, ever so slightly sweet, layered and with a deep dark chocolate that lingers.”
Heavy Petal will be available in 750ml champagne bottles and available at a very limited number of locations on draft.
