Firmenich on “A List” of Leading Companies Tackling Climate Change for Third Year
27 Jan 2017 --- For the third consecutive year, Firmenich has been identified as a world leader for its actions and strategies in response to climate change and has been ranked on the Supplier Climate A List, in the top 3% of corporations participating in CDP’s supply chain program.
“With 2016 being the hottest year on record for the third year in a row, business should play an even bigger leadership role to help address this issue,” said Gilbert Ghostine, CEO Firmenich. “As we rank in the top 3% of “A List” companies, it is paramount to us to keep on setting new standards of excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management and lead the industry forward.”
Dexter Galvin, Head of CDP Supply Chain comments: “Companies should engage their entire supply chain to reduce emissions beyond their operations. Firmenich has been developing strong initiatives to address climate change for years and recently joined the CDP supply chain to continue its actions beyond its operations. We congratulate them for being recognized in the top 3% of suppliers as part of CDP’s Supplier Climate A List.”
Jane Sinclair, Firmenich General Counsel adds: “Firmenich has set ambitious sustainability goals and aims to cut absolute CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. We also look to solely rely on renewable energy for our manufacturing sites and lead them towards zero waste to landfill. We are on our path to carbon neutrality and proud to be recognized as a leading supplier for action on climate change for the third consecutive year and named the Best Supply Chain Responder in Switzerland.”
The Supplier Climate A List released in CDP’s Missing Link: Harnessing the Power of Purchasing for a Sustainable Future presents 112 “A Listers” among over 4,300 companies, identified as demonstrating a superior approach to climate change mitigation. The report reveals that the world’s largest purchasing organizations are using their buying clout to drive down emissions across their supply chains, with 434 million tonnes of CO2e reductions – equivalent to more than France’s annual GHG emissions – reported by suppliers worldwide in 2016.
Firmenich teams attended the 2017 Supply Chain summit in London on January 24 with 30 other global sustainability leaders, to share best practices in suppliers’ engagement and emissions reduction.
