Finnish Meat Processor Atria Swallows Sweden’s Lagerbergs
14 Mar 2016 --- Finnish meat processor Atria is moving into the poultry business in Sweden after buying Swedish group Lagerbergs. Lagerbergs is the third biggest supplier of chicken in the Swedish market.
According to Atria, the acquisition will boost its annual sales by $33.3 million.
It means that Atria is expanding its business in Sweden into white meat processing, a steadily growing business.
Lagerbegs, which processes around 10 million birds a year, has its own production plans and chicken-rearing facility in Blkinge, in Sweden.
As well as its own chicken rearing, Lagerbergs also buys chicken from local producers.
The deal follows just months after regulators stonewalled Scandi Standard’s purchase of Lagerbergs over competition concerns.
Last month, Atria reported a near 25 percent drop in sales to $83 million, after it was hit by problems in the Russian market.
Atria has a number of plants in Finland as well as across other parts of Scandinavian.
The meat processor business is divided across its Finnish, Scandinavian, Russian and Baltic business.
